The Mystery Dog

August 8th, 2007Randomness / WeatherComments?

Last night, Bryan and I were sitting outside on the porch swing watching the thunderstorm (which had some quite impressive lightening) when a beagle came trotting up the driveway… and right onto the porch. She proceeded to jump up on the swing and make herself at home, staying for the duration of the storm. When we went back in the house, she really wanted to come inside with us and refused to leave the porch. I finally had to gently escort her to the sidewalk, after which she headed off (hopefully) back to her home.

Today, I asked one of our neighbors if they knew anybody with a beagle, but unfortunately they didn’t. We were almost hoping that a dog had adopted us, but she seemed too well-groomed to be homeless. I guess she was just a little scared of the storm and wanted somewhere to stay dry. Maybe we’ll figure out where she came from one day.

It’s a Fine Day

October 23rd, 2006WeatherComments?

Today the weather played a nice trick on everybody. Especially me. It’s been raining for… a while, so this morning I assumed that the wet sidewalks just meant more rain. Imagine my surprise when I got out of the shower and saw - you guessed it - snow. Which? Is. Not. Pretty. It then proceeded to snow for the rest of the day.

Luckily I have a spot in the garage here at the apartment and I can also do garage parking at work. Which is good, since my snow brush was living it up in the nice warm apartment today instead of being a good brush and coming to my car.

Ever after living in Ohio for two years, I’m still not used to the idea that it can snow before Thanksgiving. Though it might just be a little bit pretty. Don’t tell the snow I said that.

Just a reminder to make sure you’re either logged in to nanovivid.com or reading through your LiveJournal friends page. Otherwise you might be missing some entries, such as the rather hilarious one I posted this past week.

Also, it’s still snowing. And tomorrow it’s going to be 50°. God. This weather needs to figure things out.

Oh, and this is my 500th entry. Neat!

Going Back in Time

Today, the weather chose to ignore the fact that it’s nearly May. Although none of the snow has stuck (yet), it’s been doing the rainy snow thing all day. ::sigh::

At least I have a lovely spring-y theme for my cell phone. Not that it makes it any warmer. Stupid Ohio.

I woke up this morning and it was snowing. Still is. Wednesday it was almost 70°. What. The. Fuck.

Also! This song is so beautiful. And? It’s free from iTunes. So you should download it now.

You know it’s cold when the window juice at the gas station looks like a blue raspberry slushy. But, you know, not as tasty.

Mr. Blue Sky

Yesterday (and today) we’re having a rare phenomenon for an Ohio winter… sunshine and blue skies! I snapped a crappy picture with my camera yesterday:

blue sky

The unfortunate side effect of blue skies, however, is bone-chilling cold. As I write this, it’s a balmy 5°. So while it looks pretty outside, it’s just a trap to lure us into a frosty demise.

The new work schedule has been treating me pretty well. One very nice aspect is that I don’t have to change my sleeping times so I don’t get all screwed up when I switch back to normal hours in another week. Working late is definitely different, but it’s kind of fun too.

Excuse me as I begin layering clothes for my venture into the outside world. Yes, I don’t have to leave for several hours but it never hurts to start early. Especially when the only way to stay warm is to wear every single piece of clothing I own. The whole not being able to move afterwards thing is a bit of a bummer, but hey, at least I’m not getting frostbite.

Meet Mr. Lamb

January 22nd, 2005News / Pictures / Randomness / Weather4 Comments

Today, Bryan went out to Costco to attempt the purchase of some canisters for flour and other such kitchen-y things. I, being the sane soul that I am, decided to stay home in the warmth. There were several things that made this a sad trip for Bryan. First of all, right after he got on the highway, a blizzard descended on him. Then, once he got to Costco, there were no canisters. And of course, I wasn’t along, so that clearly made it less happy. Overall, a very disappointing trip.

However, there was one redemptive happening. While scouring every store in the shopping complex for canisters, Bryan happened across a very cute stuffed animal that he bought for me. Bryan christened him Mr. Lamb. Here’s a picture of Mr. Lamb on my shoulder from earlier tonight:

Come on Give Me Some of That Night Shift

January 21st, 2005News / WeatherComments?

It’s been a pretty typical week… if you consider the WAY TOO COLD weather typical. The cold has been cold enough to freeze the lake at least a little way out in the shallow parts, though it’s probably not enough to walk on. I won’t be trying it, anyway.

A few weeks ago, one of the other contractors at work left. Unfortunately, he was the person who worked the 1 - 10 pm shift. So the other contractor and I are going to be taking turns in a two-week rotation. My first two weeks starts Monday. It’s going to be interesting, since I’ve never worked a shift like that before. The saddest part will be not seeing Bryan very much. I’m sure I’ll make it though, since it’s only two weeks.

Digging Out

December 23rd, 2004Randomness / Weather2 Comments

Tonight I spent about an hour and a half digging my car out of its snowy prison. Using a garden shovel. I totally redefined fun.

fun n : activities causing cold in the extremities and all-over muscle exhaustion; “clearing the snow from the car sure was fun!”

I had to use the garden shovel because there are apparently no snow shovels left to buy in all of Cleveland. I should know. I went to five different stores and none of them had a single snow shovel.

As I was nearing the end of the shoveling, someone from the apartments across the street was kind enough to offer their help when they drove by and saw me shoveling. By the time they found a snow shovel and came out, I was mostly done, though they did help some. That was very nice.

It’s time for me to go to bed now though, since I’m somewhat trembling from all the shoveling. My back is going to be angry with me tomorrow. God, I sound like an old man.

At least I won’t have to do this with a garden spade again, since Bryan ordered me a snow shovel from Amazon. In the future, I will be properly equipped to fight the snow.

David Hasselhoff - O Holy Night (Bryan is listening to things at the iTunes Music Store. You too can listen to this wonderful piece of holiday wonderment. Be forewarned though... it will probably make the Baby Jesus cry. And you as well.)
