Just a couple quick site things.

First, Gravatars! If you want to get a nifty pic next to your name on the nanovivid.com comments pages (see here for an example), go sign up for one now.

I also want to mention that I’ve added several new feeds, including one for the webcam and one for the gallery. Regarding the latter, Bryan accuses me of copying his idea. I encourage the reader to take a look at my bookmarks regarding Coppermine. Note the date on the RSS one. This case, I do believe, is closed.

In summary, get a Gravatar and subscribe to some feeds.

One of the features I’ve added with the redesign is the Quickies section. These are links that I feel like sharing but don’t deserve their own blog post. There’s an RSS feed for Quickies or you can view them on the homepage (I’ll have a feed for LiveJournal users soon). If you browse through the monthly archive you can see the older Quickies (they go back to December).

It’s alive! The new nanovivid.com has arrived. There is a lot of cleanup left to do, but I decided to go ahead and get things going. Now I’m off to bed. I’ll fix broken things tomorrow.

My big plan for the evening was to get the new site design in place. However, my Powerbook had other ideas. All of a sudden my internet access stopped accessing, but Bryan’s iMac was still working. Rebooted… nothing. After some mucking around with restarting the Airport base station and other such things, I found this thread describing the exact symptoms of my problem. I repaired permissions, and voila! All better.

Except of course for the not finishing my site.

Maybe I’ll get it done after the Real World Phily season finale. Yes, trashy TV is coming before my site. Damn you, MTV!

I’ve begun the process of redesigning nanovivid.com… however, it will be a while before anything sees the light of day. I’m starting with improvements to the code that generates the site and then I’ll move on to the actual design.

One new feature will be a linklog (list of links that I think are worth visiting) powered by del.icio.us. You can already view the links I’ve logged at del.icio.us/nanovivid/linklog, though in the end this will be integrated into my site. Like I said earlier, I really will write more about del.icio.us soon (and actually explain what it is for those who don’t know).

By the way… if you ever wondered whether it’s difficult to type while brushing your teeth, the answer is a definite yes. I mean, I’ve never done that.

Well, I think I’ve got everything happily in place on the new server. Dreamhost is a nice place to be.

Bryan and I will be heading to Virginia to celebrate the New Year, and we want to hang out with as many people as possible. So if I haven’t talked to you yet, call me. :-)

Oh, and as Bryan mentioned, this will be a computer-free trip, so don’t expect any updates this weekend. In other words, things will be normal. I so lose at blogging.

Yes, I do believe I can survive a weekend without my PowerBook. At least, I hope so. Withdrawal can be a bitch though. I’ll try to make it somehow…

Bryan’s friend who has hosted him for years now is going to be getting rid of his server. As a result, we’re switching to Dreamhost. I’m going to be activating the transfer tonight, so there’s a good chance my site will be down for a significant portion of the day tomorrow.

After work tomorrow I’ll be working to get things back up and running. In the meantime, feel free to browse my del.icio.us bookmarks. More on the coolness that is del.icio.us soon.

Today, I released a little project I’ve been working on for a bit now. CallVantage Dialer is an AppleScript that automates the process of dialing numbers for AT&T CallVantage using Safari and the CallVantage website.

Thanks to Bryan for testing and offering suggestions.

I also posted the script to MacUpdate.

In other news, the site design has been updated to 1.2. I’ve shuffled the menus to create a new “projects” menu. Also, if you’re using a non-IE browser, you’ll find the menus more usable as they now have a buffer zone so they don’t disappear the instant you move your mouse off them.
