Who wants to be my friend on Netflix? I only have two friends and I’m feeling lonely! Send an invitation to adam @ this domain and I’ll love you forever. Or at least consider it.
♫ Slow Funeral - The Loss

I haven’t shared any music for a while, so today I’m digging into my iTunes to serve up a couple of epic, super-obscure tracks. To give you an idea of how generally unknown these songs are, searching for them in Google gives exactly zero results. Nada. Nil. Well, except for a mention of the first one here on my site as a “currently listening.”
Cloud2Ground - Rush
First on the menu is a spectacular sonic journey from Cloud2Ground. Though no longer around as Cloud2Ground, they went on to form the wonderful Shiny Toy Guns. Cloud2Ground (alias Slyder) put out two full length CDs (E-Majn and The Gate <Beautiful>), but this track is pre-E-Majn. It’s from some various artists collection (the name of which escapes me). If you happen to be familiar with Cloud2Ground/Slyder’s catalog, you’ll hear the precursors of multiple songs mixed in here (largely Score and Raindown). Rush is an eleven-minute trip that is equal parts trance, ambient, and classical piano work. It begins as a fairly minimal drums/bassline/percussion piece, effortlessly morphs into laid-back piano over synths mode, then turns around and explodes into a full blown trance affair. And the vocal samples? Brilliant.
Antidote - Euphoric Recall
Next up is nearly nine minutes of droning, fuzzed-out, pounding techno that I am hopelessly in love with. Antidote released this track back in 2002 as part of their internet-only Future Happiness album. It has fourteen plays in iTunes, but back when I first got my hands on an early version in 2001, I listened to it continuously for about a week. The first thing to hit your ears is the main synth loop as it insistently worms its way into your brain. Then, on the third or fourth repeat, you start to notice all the other little sub-melodies, shifts, and subtle changes happening throughout. From the filtered intro to the slow, pulsing fade, Euphoric Recall is a masterpiece.

Well, I’ve done it. As promised, I blogged for a week. I’m even going to try and keep it up. Now where’s my cookie?
♫ Down With The Butterfly - Blue And Green

Am I a bad person for finding Lotus Notes development rather enjoyable? Google Fight says… apparently not. I guess would be much more evil if I enjoyed doing stuff with Outlook. At least according to the Internets. I really have been enjoying learning how to work with Notes, even if some of its shortcomings do make me want to gouge my eyes out with a rusty nail. Why can’t you search for multiple keywords in a view? I don’t know! And by now everyone has stopped reading anyway because all they’re seeing is “geeky rant bla bla bla” so I’ll shut up now.

Today has been fairly uneventful. Probably the most exciting thing that happened was watching a couple episodes of MythBusters, which always makes me happy. I’ve given it three thumbs up on Mr TiVo, so he’s pretty good about recording it for me and I’ve had fun catching up on all the ones I’ve never seen.
The crazy thing about MythBusters for me is that I don’t think I’ve yet encountered an episode that I didn’t enjoy. It’s one of the most constantly interesting, engaging, and (gasp) educational shows out there. Plus, with all the big explosions, how could you possibly be bored?
Aaaand… that’s about it. I never quite got around to taking on those aliens, but there’s always next weekend.
♫ Underworld - The Misterons Mix

Geocaching was a lot of fun today. Well, except for the part where I jinxed us from having good weather in the morning. The day started off pretty chilly and rainy, which wasn’t so fun for those of us wearing shorts and having no umbrellas. Once it cleared up the day was much more enjoyable.
We did four caches and found all four, including the Lakewood Mini-Park one that had stumped us for a long time. Bryan was especially bitter about that, since he had spent hours looking for it in the past and Lisa found it in about two minutes.
Every time I go Geocaching I always thing that I should do it more often, because it’s very enjoyable. Of course, there’s also that feeling of accomplishment when you discover a cache. Definitely a great way to spend a Saturday.

Woah, I almost missed my blogging deadline for today. But I shall remain victorious!
Bryan and I are going Geocaching tomorrow with some friends, which should be great fun. The weather is even looking like it should be pretty ok!
That’s about the extent of our big weekend plans at this point. My only other goal is to continue hacking the fuck out of my MySpace page until it is marginally less ugly. You can see the progress I’ve made so far if you’re interested. There’s still a long road ahead, I fear. It would be much longer were it not for the genius work that is Hacking A More Tasteful MySpace. GENIUS.
What are YOUR exciting plans for the weekend? I’m hoping somebody is staging a peaceful takeover of a hostile alien warship because, MAN, who doesn’t love a good takeover?

Could someone explain to me what the deal with MySpace comments is? I’ve been puzzling over this for days and feeling rather stupid about it. Are you supposed to reply to them? I don’t think you are, because I’ve never seen any replies and there’s no reply button. Yet sometimes people ask questions there. Is it just assumed that you’ll send them a message back? Or is it designed as one-way communication, like the guestbooks of old brought into the new millennium, now with 50% more obnoxious images?
I feel dumb for asking, but it’s been bothering me. Of course, maybe I’m just too old to get it. You know, those kids these days with their long hair, rock-n-roll music, and MySpace pages. Somebody please take pity on me and explain how it’s supposed to work.
♫ Goat Explosion - Come On, Make Me Feel

I’ve already outed myself as a hopeless Farscape fan, so it should come as no surprise that I am loving Television Without Pity’s Long Hot Farscapey Summer. I pretty much adore TWoP anyway (a big part of why I like watching Buffy and Angel is that I can read the recaps), so it’s two great tastes that taste great together.
While I’ve been enjoying all the recaps, it’s Jacob’s in particular that keep me coming back. He really digs into the show and brings out aspects that I had never considered. If you’re a ‘Scaper, you definitely owe it to yourself to check out the recaps he’s done. A Human Reaction is one of my favorites, both in terms of episodes and recaps. Amazing, deep stuff.
And if you think I’m being a fanboy today, just wait until I write about Underworld.

I’d like to take a moment to apologize to the universe. It’s come to my attention that the end of time is scheduled for this Saturday and it’s my fault. See, I now have a MySpace profile, something that I had never really planned to do.
Simply signing up for MySpace isn’t what’s causing Armageddon though. The real problem is that I’m kind of enjoying it. I know… MySpace is ugly, messy, and the downfall of western society. Damn if it isn’t pretty fun though!
So when the stars start falling on Saturday, you know who to blame. Now I’m off to try and make my page pretty (since I’m too late for Ze’s I Knows Me Some Ugly MySpace competition, I figure I should try and balance things out a bit with some non-ugly).
