Yesterday I got to hang out with Abbey for the first time in a couple years. She was in the area (and by “in the area” I mean “two-ish hours away”) due to a Killers concert that I’m still bitter about not being able to attend. That’s two concerts in one month that I had to miss. Grrrr. Limecat is not pleased.

Spending time with Abbey helped to mitigate the pain in my soul, because she’s awesome. We talked about everything ever and got caught up on the latest gossip surrounding people we know from back in the day. There was also a visit to a bookstore where I bought cheap CDs and an attempted trip to an eatery that was having some sort of show tunes sing-along. It’s probably best that we didn’t go there, since I know almost no show tunes. Yes, I’m turning in my Gay Card tomorrow.

Music on the trip down was provided by a lovely pair of mixes from Ebby. Coming back, I listened to the (very good) Faithless album I acquired during my CD buying spree. I also have to admit that I bought the I’m Too Sexy single by Right Said Fred, thinking that it might be fun. Unfortunately, it wasn’t really worth the fiddy cents it cost, since none of the mixes is all that exciting.

Yesterday on a scale of 1 to 10: Seeing Abbey: 2300. Buying CDs: 9. Ebby’s Mixes: 10. Excitement over potential of Right Said Fred CD: 8. Actual enjoyment of RSF CD: 1.

If anybody other than Abbey and me gets the title, you totally win a prize.

Hello, Moto

I was chatting with Courtney a bit ago and mentioned to her that all of Motorola’s (cool) new phones have four letter names (RAZR, SLVR, PEBL, ROKR). Of course, she couldn’t resist taking that to the place that any sane person would go and replied “yes, the new DAMN phone is really cool.”

That inspired us to think of some other names and purpose the phones would serve.

  • HELL is for goths, bikers, and angry teenage girls who listen to Avril.

  • The SHTR is for Gwen Stefani, since she wants us to be well aquainted with her shit.

  • And FCKR… well, that’s for booty calls. Obviously.

Feel free to contribute your own Moto names. YEAH!*

* YEAH phone produced by Motorola exclusively for Lil’ Jon. God that was a cheap joke.

Today on the way to get haircuts, Bryan happened to tune the radio to a station playing some music by Florence Foster Jenkins. Hers is, without a doubt, some of the worst “singing” I’ve ever heard. Florence was “an American soprano who became famous for her complete lack of singing ability” (Wikipeida - Florence Foster Jenkins). If you’d like to torture your ears and have a good laugh, an album of her “music,” The Glory (????) of the Human Voice, is actually in the iTunes music store.

  • The Mac Startup Sound
Origin of the sound and a song that uses it as the bassline!
  • Bud Vase Features
Great article on the little things that make people excited about a product.
  • Nintendo’s Long Tail
“There’s a long tail of consumers and a long tail of producers, and I think that next year Nintendo is going to introduce the two to each other in an entirely new way.”
