Revenge of the Dialer

August 30th, 2004Goodies / Mac / SoftwareComments?

CallVantage Dialer has been updated again. Here’s the changelog:

  • CallVantage number and password are now stored in a preference file. No more opening the script and manually entering information.
  • Displays a Growl notification while the number is being dialed if Growl is installed.

How ‘Bout Those VMAs

August 29th, 2004Music / Randomness / TelevisionComments?

Fluxblog has excellent commentary on the VMAs. Especially look for the comments about Hoobastank (8:31), The Polyphonic Spree (10:45), and Linkin Park (11:01). Priceless.

I was personally the most confused by the MTV2 award. There are all these completely different groups thrown together simply by the virtue that MTV2 plays them. It would be more sensible to me to break them out… but whatever. Franz Ferdinand definitely should have won over Yellowcard though, regardless of the stupidity of the award itself.

During the VMAs, Bryan was inspired to expound on the things that make up a typical rap video. It’s cute. Go read it.

Camera Phone Nonsense

I have a camera phone. It takes shitty ass pictures. I shall now force the shittyness of said photos upon your eyes. Muahaha!

Bryan will probably kill me for this because he doesn’t like pictures of himself, but I think it’s a neat photo. bryan and adam at cedar point

Tree Lawn?

August 25th, 2004Randomness14 Comments

Recently, Bryan said something about a “tree lawn” and I had absolutely no idea what he meant. So how many of you, without looking it up, know what a tree lawn is?

I’m trying to find out if I missed out on some critical portion of my education pertaining to terms such as “tree lawn.” Help me out.

Gmail and Browse Happy

One: I have six, count ‘em, six Gmail invites to give out. Anybody want one?

Two: If you’re still using Internet Explorer (and I know there are some of you out there), please check out Browse Happy to learn why you should seriously consider switching to a more secure browser.

That is all.

Edit: Down to five four three two five Gmail invites. Anybody else…?

Interview 1.0

August 24th, 2004News1 Comment

Today I had my first interview, and I feel that it went fairly well. The job is PHP/MySQL programming, so that’s up my alley. I’m supposed to hear back soon about a second interview. My fingers are crossed!

Better Dialing for All

August 20th, 2004Goodies / Mac / Software2 Comments

CallVantage Dialer has been updated. It now uses cURL instead of the Safari scripting hacks that were previously used. This means that it now is completely invisible and transparent to the user. Yay shell scripting!

If You’d Pick Up That Telephone

August 19th, 2004Geeking Out / Goodies / Mac / Site / Software2 Comments

Today, I released a little project I’ve been working on for a bit now. CallVantage Dialer is an AppleScript that automates the process of dialing numbers for AT&T CallVantage using Safari and the CallVantage website.

Thanks to Bryan for testing and offering suggestions.

I also posted the script to MacUpdate.

In other news, the site design has been updated to 1.2. I’ve shuffled the menus to create a new “projects” menu. Also, if you’re using a non-IE browser, you’ll find the menus more usable as they now have a buffer zone so they don’t disappear the instant you move your mouse off them.

Jobbing News

August 12th, 2004News3 Comments

As of today, I have a job! Well, it’s somewhat temporary and only part-time, but it’s a job nonetheless. Interestingly enough, this job is doing freelance coding for the same college I just left. Since I’ll be working as a contractor, the “no being gay” rule doesn’t apply to me. ;-) Of course, the search for something permanent will continue, but it’s nice to have something to help us stay off the street.
