That Empty Feeling in Your Gut

April 26th, 2004Introspection / News

I just found out that my mom has two weeks to a month to live. She’s had cancer for about 8 months or so and none of the treatments have helped.

I’m doing alright… it’s mostly surreal. I’m sure it’ll hit me at some point, but for now I’m ok. I’ll be going down to see her later this week.

I have internet at my new apartment! It just took an Adelphia tech coming and changing some stuff on the pole that was blocking the signal. Now I just have to get all moved in and it’ll be all good.

Quick, Very Quick

I have internet at my apartment right now because even though Adelphia turned off our service over the weekend, the people upstairs have unsecured wireless. W00t.

I’m packing and moving things and it’s getting ready to rain and that’s just not cool.

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll have internet at my new place. We’ll see if Adelphia can get their act together.

Sorry I’m so scattered and that I haven’t been posting much lately. I’ll try to do better once I’m moved. Jeremiah posted a few pictures from the Boston trip but since he doesn’t have permalinks right now I can’t link directly to it. Go find it for yourself and bug him about the links. ;-)

New Thunderbird icon. Wow. I’m not quite as in love with it as the Firefox icon, but still, Jon Hicks kicks ass.

Apple Store Bostonia

April 17th, 2004Geeking Out / Movies / Travel2 Comments

So it’s really in Cambridge… I just wanted to say Bostonia.

The trip has been quite fun so far. We saw Kill Bill Vol. 2 last night which I rather enjoyed. One of the neat aspects of that movie is how the style of the action changes depending on the location. During Vol. 1 there was a lot of over-the-top blood and gore during the scenes set in Japan, but Vol. 2 had more of a Western style since it was set in the midwest. The cinematography was once again very interesting and enjoyable, as was the music.

Today as we were waiting to get on the subway, I saw someone who works at the same place as me back in VA. How random is that? I come to Boston and can’t get away from Virginia.

More fun will be had today with shopping and a late-night improv crew we’re going to see. Oh, and the weather is heavenly. I’ve decided that I bring good weather to Boston, since last time I was here in early November, it was also in the 70s. I win.

I just cut my finger (paper cut style) opening a yogurt container. How is that even possible? I don’t understand.

Visiting Boston 2.0

April 15th, 2004Friends / Travel2 Comments

This weekend I’ll be visiting Jeremiah in Boston, but not alone this time. Courtney and Bryan are coming as well! It should be a grand old time.

My flight leaves at godawful o’clock tomorrow morning, so I really need to get packing and sleep.

Ikea Binge 2004

April 9th, 2004Friends1 Comment

Today, Courtney and I are on our 2nd annual good friday trip to IKEA. I spent a boatload of money at IKEA getting stuff for my new apartment. Of course, we’re at the Apple store right now (where I played with a pink iPod Mini… Ryan would be proud), and we’ll soon be heading to Big Bowl for some delectable Asian cuisine. Zesta!

Battle of the Centrury: Torgo vs. Trogdor

April 9th, 2004Randomness6 Comments

It’s a true clash of the titans! Two of the most feared and revered monsters of our time battle to the death. Who should you root for? Just use this handy guide to our contestants’ attributes and decide for yourself.

Torgo The “monster” from “Manos” the Hands of Fate, Torgo’s most distinctive feature is his large knees.

Strengths: Torgo’s haunting theme has been known to drive his enemies insane. He also can keep opponents distracted with his very slow and distinctive manner of speech. The staff he carries can be used to bludgeon his adversaries, though he has never been seen to use it for much other than walking.

Weaknesses: Torgo is not known for being quick on his feet. In fact, his large knees cause him to wobble more than walk or run. He also was killed at the end of “Manos”… but we’ll ignore that. Maybe he’s a zombie now (which would probably be a strength).

For more on Torgo (and I know you want to know more), here is a wealth of information.

Trogdor Trogdor was a man… I mean, he was a dragon-man… or maybe he was just a dragon. But he was still TROGDOR!

Strengths: Trogdor’s main offensive weapon is that of burnination. Though he has mostly been known to burninate the countryside and the peasants in their thatch-roofed cottages, I’m sure he could use his burnination against any foe he chose. Trogdor is also a wingaling dragon, which probably means he can fly, and he has a big beefy arm that he could most likely use to smite anyone who annoyed him.

Weaknesses: In my opinion, Trogdor looks a little top heavy. Seriously, I think a bit of a stiff breeze would make it hard for him to stand up. What with that beefy arm coming out of the back of his neck and his little tiny legs, he probably doesn’t have the best balance in the world.

Showdown Who do you think would win in this epic battle? Would Torgo drive Trogdor out of his mind using the haunting theme and then crush Trogdor using his knees? Or would Trogdor smite and burninate Torgo from here to next Wednesday? Only you can decide! (Hm, that makes me think of those choose your own adventure books… “If Torgo wins, turn to page 32. If Trogdor wins, turn to page 57. If it’s a tie, go back and re-read this page and realize that a tie is not an option. This is to the death.)
