Or, how to get under my skin. As I’m sure everyone does, I have my pet peeves. Most of them are noise-related. Humming and whistling have an amazing ability to bug me because they interrupt the soundtrack in my head. People drumming on things (unless it’s in a song) doesn’t sit well with me either. Don’t even get me started on gum popping ::shudder::.
Those are probably my biggest peeves. So now if you ever want to annoy me, you know how. Of course, in return, you need to tell me yours. Please?

Tonight Ryan and I resolved to purposefully see a bad movie. House of the Dead appeared to fit the bill. This steaming pile of crap more than fulfilled our expectations. As soon as the neon-outline effect video in the credits hit the screen, I knew this would be one hell of a good stinker.
I guess what I’m going to say contains "spoilers"… as anything could spoil the film better than what it does to itself. From the poor "plot" setup (a rave on an island) to the obviously low budget (this "biggest rave of the year" apparently had not more than fifty people at the most) to the strange editing choices (random splicing of video game footage), House of the Dead reaches for new heights of suckyness, the likes of which few have ever dreamed to attain.
If you’re looking for a great movie to MST, House of the Dead would be a good choice. I’m really glad I only paid a dollar and a half to see it. The entertainment was definitely worth that much, but not much more.

I’ve been reading A Fire Upon The Deep by Vernor Vinge, and have noticed that sometimes when I get to a tension-filled or action-packed part, I find it very difficult not to jump ahead to find out what happens. I wouldn’t go as far as turning the page, but if I’m on the left, my eyes will jump to the right and start scanning. I try to tell them not to, but they just have to find out what’s next. Bad eyes.

So, Thanksgiving. Holidays are always interesting affairs for me, because I’ve never been very connected with my family, let alone my extended family. It’s weird to try and think of the Important things from my life that need to be told to people so they feel informed and part of my life. Hm.
However, the last couple years have been better, and today should be a good day too. Plus, the food is always more than worth any slight social uncomfortableness that may arise.

And by interesting I mean not very. I woke up this morning with a pretty yucky headache, so I delayed going to work until after lunch. However, I still wasn’t feeling 100% at that point, so I just ended up not going at all and being a major bum. Oh well, gotta use those sick days sometime I guess. I blame Ney for giving me her headache from last night… over IM.

So the weekend with Abbey was great. She is such good people. Friday night we watched the extended version of The Two Towers. I enjoyed it much more than the theatrical release. There were many moments I would find myself wondering how they could have possibly cut all the exposition and important scenes that they did. Despite the length, I didn’t get bored. The movie really does make a lot more sense in the extended edition. I’m still not happy with how Faramir was handled since it diverged so far from the character in the book, but that’s my biggest gripe with Two Towers. In the context of the extended edition, Faramir’s actions do make more sense, it’s just the disparity with the book that bothers me. Overall, definitely a worthwhile watch.
I was also introduced to Eddie Izzard via Dress to Kill. He is completely hilarious. For example:
We stole countries! That’s how you build an empire. We stole countries with the cunning use of flags! Sail halfway around the world, stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain." And they’re going, "You can’t claim us. We live here! There’s five hundred million of us." "Do you have a flag?" "We don’t need a flag, this is our country you bastard!"
Since Abbey had been awake for thirty-some hours, sleeping way in on Saturday was totally on the menu. I woke up a couple hours before her and finished reading Neuromancer, which I am a bit ashamed of not having read sooner, considering its huge influence on many of today’s sci-fi works. Definitely a recommended read.
So we finally all got up and did stuff and eventually ate and then went to a play and that was fun and (can you tell I’m getting tired of writing) eventually slept and then I came home.
Great weekend. Oh, and Abbey’s friends are insane and cool too. Now for a three day week! I’m all about the time off from work lately. Yay.

Dear Apple Computer,
I have been a Mac user as long as I can remember, but I may soon be forced to leave. It all began with OS X. Someone got the bright idea to code name 10.0 "Cheetah." Not only was it a very frightening name, bit also ironic, since 10.0 was anything but Cheetah-like in its speed. Knowing I could outrun this cat made it slightly less frightening. Next came Puma and then Jaguar (the furry X on the box still gives me the heebie-jeebies).
Now we come to Panther, the most terrifying yet. Not only is fast, but it’s also some sort of metal mecha-kitty with steel body armor and diamond-tipped claws. Just the thought sends me running for cover.
For the sake of your marketshare (and my sanity), please consider a more canine-friendly code name for MacOS 10.4, such as "Wolf" or "Hyena." If the next version does have a cat name, dogs all over the world are prepared to join me in a boycott. Trust me, you do not want to face our wrath. (Just ask any mailman about how well those "cats of the world" stamps faired with us.)
Sincerely,
Fluffy the Poodle
(I was bored today while waiting for a computer to install stuff so I wrote this. God, I’m weird.)
