The IKEA trip was hella fun. I got a couple things — a new chair and lamp for my room. The chair is so comfy… I love it.
I finally got Elephant by The White Stripes today. They effing rock.
This week is going to be hectic at work, but at least we’re only open normal hours at the helpdesk. That means I can finally get back into running and working out. Yay for that… I’ve definitely missed it. Happy Monday all.

Today has been mostly unproductive, just the way I like my Saturdays. I did get some laundry done (yay for clean clothes) but other than that it was mostly a lazy day. My parents came up and I had lunch with them at The Little Grill, and that of course was good. Then later I got an IM from Steve telling me I should come over because John was there. So I did just that. It was great to hang out with those guys again after much too long. Tomorrow is IKEA day. Mmmmm… furniture.

As of Friday afternoon when I left work, all the student computers were done and picked up. Not only that, it was the second day in a row that I left at five. Not only that, this morning I got to really sleep in for the first time in much too long. Going to bed ridiculously early helped too. I need to get some breakfast… I’m thinking maybe pancakes and eggs… yum.
Thanks to Matthew, I am in love with Bic Runga. Her music is so relaxing and beautiful. There are RealAudio previews of all the tracks from Beautiful Collision over at the Sony Music Australia site for her. Go listen.
Now about those pancakes…

The last couple days (wow, it feels so much longer than that) have been alternately annoyingly busy and extremely fun. While it’s a bit draining working long hours and always being on the move, it’s also rewarding getting peoples’ problems solved. I’m not sure what I’m going to do this weekend or next week when I’m not working. It’s to the point where it’s a bit hard to remember what it was like to not work twelve hours or more a day.
Tomorrow night is going to be teh fun though! Jeremiah is coming up to hang out and spend the night one last time before he heads off to college. Not only that, I’ll get to see Courtney for the first time in… forever, it seems. AND I’m getting off work at five so all this can happen. Yay!
Maybe once I have time to actually experience some life, I’ll be able to write some entries with some real content. Maybe. :-)

That’s pretty much how today has felt. That thing I said about the worst being over? Well, no. This is the first time I’ve sat at my desk for more than five minutes all day. It’s good that I don’t have any programming projects going on right now because I wouldn’t be able to do anything about them, what with configuring computers, doing room visits, and manning the helpdesk. Mad props to m.yo for all his help this morning… we would have gone insane without him.
We seem to have a strain of Welchia running around the student segment of our network. At least they wont have to worry about Blaster shutting down their systems. Once again, I’m glad that I am a Mac user.
I’ll be working long hours most of the week I think… the helpdesk is open 8am to 9pm. Yeah… putting out fires with gasoline.

The most intense part of students returning to campus is now over. We moved 206 computers through the setup process in two days. Work is still going to be hectic and probably require some longer hours, but not as bad as getting ready. Having managed switches in the dorms is really going to help (no more late-night wiring runs). W00t for that.
Now that some sanity will be retuning, I can get back to having a life. Once Dave gets back from visiting people, he, Ney, and I are going to go get some food. I haven’t seen Courtney in over a week… that’s unheard of. I even had to skip our Thursday funado this week because of work. The upside to it all is that I’ve earned several days of comp time, which should come in handy when Bryan comes to visit, hopefully sometime next month.
Well, I’m going to wait for Dave to get back. Hopefully he gets here soon, because I’m all hungry and stuff.

The story of my life the past few days has been simple: get up, go to work, come home, go to sleep. I worked ‘till midnight on Thursday, 1:30 am on Friday, and just over twelve hours today (8 to 8ish). This time of the year reminds me of exam week. It’s really too bad that I don’t get overtime, but I have earned a few days of comp time. Thanks to everyone’s offerings of sympathy and support and "adam, you need to go to bed soon." :-)
As Julie told me "You need a backrub. And some cheese." If I could get either right now, I would.
I’m blissfully drained, if that makes any sense at all. At least I’m finally breathing again.
I keep meaning to mention Matthew’s entry about our twinness. So there we go. Yay for new friends. :-)
Well kiddos, I think that about exhausts my limited coherence for this evening.

falling from the landscape
exploding in the face of god

I just got a call from someone asking for Carol Baker. Now, as far as I know, nobody by that name works here. It turns out they were trying to call the Department of Defense and they somehow got my number!
Yes, this is Adam of the Department of Defense, how my I direct your call?

The insanity that is the return of students has officially commenced today with an almost eleven hour GRR I JUST SPILLED MY MOSTLY FULL CUP OF WATER ALL OVER THE FLOOR! ::sigh:: Anyway, an almost eleven hour work day which consisted mostly of cleaning out our computer depot and filling almost sixteen big monitor boxes with old equipment that should have been thrown out years ago. So that place is all mucho cleaner.
I got home at about 7:45 and wow, that shower felt good. I’m really making it a goal to get some decent sleep tonight unlike last night. It’s Matthew and Courtney’s fault for keeping me up. I mean, Matthew and Courtney, I love you.
There’s still sooo much to do at work before the weekend. It’ll get done… at least that’s what I’m trying to convince myself. I’m already in not-planning-to-have-a-life-this-week mode.
On top of all that, my mom is back in the hospital, though she’s doing ok. This time it’s because apparently when they had the IV in it leaked out of the blood vessels into her hand and made it all swolen. Then it got infected. :-( But apparently she’s feeling more-or-less ok.
Oh, I almost forgot… I can’t end without mentioning The Onion - I Have An iPod — In My Mind. It brightened my day.
And… breathe.
