Somnambulated

July 24th, 2003Music7 Comments

I’m in love with this song. Wow. The lyrics are awesome and the vocal effects just kick ass. It gives me chills. Ooh, do it again!

So little joy some little joy
It’s complicated
I feel I’m stumbling in the dark
Somnambulated
I feel my heart seeking the sparks
I’m praying for love
Love, love
Praying for love

Simply being loved, loved loved
Is more than enough

Some little time to make some change
Been isolating
A thousand years inside this space
Somnambulating
I’m stumbling wounded in the dark
But I’m praying still for love
Love love…

Simply being loved, loved loved
Is more than enough

This Big Beautiful Web of Ours

July 23rd, 2003Friends / Goodies / Links / Mac / Music / Software1 Comment

Other than work and having good conversations with cool people, not too much has been happening this week. (Heh, that’s a lie, there’s a lot of stuff going on, just not stuff I can talk about here… I really need to set up some sort of privacy stuff on nv.c). To make up for the lack of me content, I’ll point you to some other content.

Kyrce (by way of Courtney) pointed out an article on Homestar Runner. It’s largely an introduction to the site but it does have some interesting facts about the Brothers Chaps. In case you missed it back toward the beginning of the year, here’s another good article.

I ran across TAZL Design the other day. They have some very nice desktop images. I’m especially a fan of the XEN collection. They need higher resolutions though.

While I was listening to Music One recently, they played a mix of The Supermen Lovers song Starlight. I first heard that song in Ireland, and I loved it. I went and checked out the Lovers’ website and it’s crazy cool. You have to beat the levels of a space invaders type game to access the content. After getting up to level 4, I was disappointed to find that level 5 just says "coming soon." Oh well. I really want to get their cds though… awesome French disco house.

In Mac software news, Konfabulator 1.5 was released today. There’s a sweet new widget called iChat Bezel that does buddy activity popups. For example, when a buddy comes online, a notice comes up the says "So-and-So is available." Unfortunately, the widget was missing a lot of options… so I added a bunch to it. :-) Here’s the changelog so far:

  • Choose which alerts to display. Show only "Available" or only "Away" and "Offline" - it’s your choice!
  • Choose between dark or light background. I felt like the original background for the widget was too light. So I made it darker. You can still use the light one if you want though.
  • Specify whether or not to show status text. Some peoples’ away messages can be really freaking long, and this makes iChat Bezel be Big McLarge Huge. Now you can choose to only see "Available" status text, only "Away," both, or neither.

If those sound good to you, download iChat Bezel Enhanced. Please give feedback at the Konfab forum thread. (Or I guess you can use the contact form, but I’d rather it be on the thread).

Playing around with that widget has just been too much fun. :-)

It’s All About the Cereal, Baby

July 21st, 2003Randomness12 Comments

I love cereal. Maybe not as much as some people, because I don’t eat it for every meal or a late night snack (that’s what peanut butter and jelly is for). I think I get it from my dad… he always eats cereal every morning. Another habit I got from him is mixing cereals. Most people I tell that to are all "You mix cereals? Like, ewww!" but the chosen few get it.

For a long time, Basic 4 has been one of my favorite cereals. Much to my chagrin, General Mills doesn’t have a website for Basic 4, so you’ll have to make do with my, um, tribute (?) to the deliciousness that is Basic 4. Another favorite, as of sometime late last year, is Kashi GoLean Crunch. Most mornings find me with a bowl of Basic 4 and GoLean Crunch… yum.

Really, this entry is dedicated to the lamentable fact that I’m almost out of milk and I really don’t feel like going out to get any tonight. *sob* I guess I’ll make it somehow.

It’s Always Something With You, Isn’t It

July 20th, 2003Friends / Movies / ShoppingComments?

It’s been a good Saturday. Ney and I went out to the Farmer’s Market, where I bought some kick-ass horseradish cheese. Seriously, the first time I tried it, I was bouncing up and down it was so good. Almost orgasmic even. We also went to B&N, where we saw a book about clouds that made me think of Adam (aka virga, a type of cloud formation), and Bed, Bath, and Beyond, where I found flatware and dinnerware sets that I really like. We also had a tasty dinner and watched TS and Joe Versus the Volcano. It’s a cute movie, and I love this quote:

My father says that almost the whole world is asleep — everybody you know, everybody you see, everybody you talk to. He says that only a few people are awake, and they live in a state of constant, total amazement.

And after that there’s not much more to say. :-)

Caseage

July 18th, 2003Geeking Out / Site3 Comments

I think I want an I-VOLUTION i-Vod3G case for my iPod. They’re purdy. And leather. I should get one soon before my ‘Pod gets any more scratched. It’s not bad now, but it’s just going to get worse if I don’t get a case that it doesn’t have to slide in and out of all the time. The only downside to the i-Vod is that if I want to use the dock I’ll have to take it out of the case. I think I can live with that sacrifice though.

Then again, I’m also wanting to get a digital camera. Will the demons of gadget lust never cease in their tormenting? I sure hope not!

Oh, I finally figured out the problem that was causing some comments to not show up with the article they belonged to. There’s a bug in my LiveJournal cross-posting code that causes the comment links to be created without the article ID on the end. Oops. I’ll work on that soon. But as long as I edit the entry once, it gets fixed, so I’ll just do that for now. I’m glad to have that nailed… it was bugging me (no pun intended… really!) And I just noticed that it looks like when my site got moved to a new server, it switched time zones too, so my post times are off. Wheee.

Bill let me borrow his User Friendly book recently, and this strip brought back memories of those days after Be got bought by Palm. I miss BeOS sometimes, but only rarely. I <3 my PowerBook too much to go back!

For all you Trading Spaces lovers out there, Close to Home has a good strip today. And man, I love Bob the Angry Flower.

What’s that you say? I should be working? Oh… right! :-P

Dodging the Parabola Fish and Other Stories

July 18th, 2003Art / Friends / Links / Mac / Music / Television5 Comments

I was looking through my bookmarks the other day and rediscovered Dodging the Parabola Fish. It’s an awesome, hilarious article about Mario games and a couple people who were obsessed with them. One of my favorite quotes: "Ghandi Mario has achieved enlightenment!" (Read the article, you’ll get it).

Tonight, Ney and I watched Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and were very entertained. It’s sort of like What Not To Wear, only the scary guys with long hair are getting made over, not telling other people what to do. A good change, I’d say. During that time, Bravo showed the new G5 commercial three times, and I’m already tired of it. It is a sexy computer though.

I got a pretty big freak out earlier today when I posted an entry and it promptly disappeared from the site, but was still in the database. It turned out that my provider was moving my site to a new host and I happened to catch it in transition. All is well now, but that was much too stressful.

I luuurve this song. Nickel Creek is the shiznit. Also the shiznit: Adam’s mad photo skillz. I keep coming back and looking at this picture in particular. I can’t put into words what I like about it… it’s just awesome.

Dreaming of You

July 17th, 2003RandomnessComments?

Last night I had some weird dreams, but the only part I really remember from any of them is being in a restaurant. Steve was there, and so was Toby. The weird thing is that I don’t even really know Toby except from reading his site. I think I said hi to him and not much else when my alarm went off. Weird, weird, weird.

I’m going to be productive some more. Wish me luck.

Realize That It’s Time to Accessorize

July 15th, 2003Friends / Geeking Out / Links / Pictures1 Comment

A few website updates worth mentioning… Jeremiah and Ryan should be back online soon. Finally.

Mozilla.org has been redesigned, and it’s really nice to have the download links right out front. The page seems a little busy, but it’s much much better than what they had. (Rather sad about AOL laying off the remaining Moz hackers though).

And some new linkage… last week Dan asked me "Have you seen this crazy lady?" Heather is completely hilarious and a very good writer. My roommate Steve now has a website and it’s very… Steve. ;-) Also, I figured I should give Travis/Matt/Matthew some linkage since he linked me and seems like a pretty cool guy.

So you thought I had some actual content? Ha! I fool you again! Though here are some pictures from Atlanta, courtesy of Denver.

Here on Moweropolis, You’re Next!

July 15th, 2003Introspection / Music2 Comments

Don’t you love the entries where I talk about the music I’ve been listening to? Of course you do. One recent discovery was Cat Power. I was introduced to her/them by one of the film crew I was in Atlanta with. You can download He War and I Don’t Blame You from the Matador Records page. My favorite Cat Power song so far though is Free. I’ve also been enjoying several tunes by 1 Mile North (go download In 1983 He Loved To Fly). Other random stuff:

I’ve found that lately I tend to make a temp playlist that I listen to over and over and over (and over) until I wear the songs out. Though I’ve been adding variety with Music One radio, which plays all dance music, all the time. For the poppier, cheesier side of things, it’s awesome.

One other thing to mention - Fischerspooner. Very weird. Very cool. You can download the videos too. You don’t need to emerge from nothing. You don’t need to tear away.

BTW, the title is in honor of me mowing the lawn on Saturday. Go me.
