Convinced

A little bit ago, Adam and I did a one-way video chat thanks to the magic of iChat AV and his iSight. Now that I’ve seen the quality firsthand, I am so definitely going to order an iSight once I get back from Atlanta. Video chat is a lot more fun when it works both ways.
Speaking of iChat… remember how I ranted about missing buddy groups? Well, I decided to really give iChat a chance… and I don’t think I could go back to the official AIM client now. Using a chat program that feels like it was actually written for OS X instead of just a sloppy adaptation is great. I still miss buddy groups a little, and reading other users’ away messages can be a little yucky if they’re long. But I think I’ll be sticking with iChat for the most part until Adium 2 is released.
I think I’m like the ideal switcher (even though I really switched from BeOS more than Windows). Within a month I bought an AirPort Extreme base station, a 17” PowerBook, and an iPod (well, the ‘Pod was a graduation present, but still)… and now I’m going to get an iSight. Apple must love me.

Yikes, you really do seem to be a wholehearted convert. That's rather kind of scary, thogh with as often as I have PC problems I can empathize.
It's definitely too bad Microsoft ran BeOS into obsolescence; I really wanted to use it. Damn.
Will none of your Macs support or emulate ( http://www.trillian.cc ) Trillian? If you're looking for a functionally perfect chat client, that's it.
But, thanks. Until I don't mind non-proprietary hardware and a paucity of driver and software support, I'll have to stick to my PC — it's cheaper to own, I can upgrade it and build a new one, and software releases are tenfold. I wish I could run Linux on it without having to deal with kernel compliations and without having to suffer through the poor driver and software support. I hate Windows with a flaming passion, but it's the only viable option right now. Damn, damn damn. At least I don't pay for this buggy piece of shit.

That's cool. I'm really enjoying my Mac stuff, but I'm not about trying to force everyone else to switch. I realize that Macs aren't right for everybody, but my PowerBook sure is right for me. I may be a convert, but I'm not a zelot… yet. ;-)
Oh, and I could run Trillian… if I wanted to get VirtualPC and use it under that. That's not seeming like so much of a good option. iChat will cut it for now.
