Cut to Me Graduating

April 27th, 2003Friends / Introspection / Movies / News1 Comment

There are a lot of people I don’t know in the apartment right eating hamburgers and they’re being loud and there’s loud music that I’m not enjoying and it’s just ugh because I need to get food but I don’t feel like going out there. My social skills suck so bad sometimes. Ugh.

In news that doesn’t suck, graduation starts in about an hour. It’s all beautiful outside so that’ll be nice. Even though I’ve been graduated since December, it’ll be nice to have the piece of paper.

I actually got up for church this morning since my parents are in town and they went. It was thoroughly meh. And that’s all about that.

Jumping back a bit, Friday night, Erica and I went to see Bulletproof Monk. I’m glad I didn’t expect an amazingly plotted or well-acted movie, because it was neither of those. But it was enjoyable when not taken at all seriously (I mean, come on, just destroy the freaking scroll already). Plus, Seann William Scott is fun to watch, and Yun-Fat Chow is cool. It was great to hang out with Erica one last time before she heads back to the west coast. I’m going to miss her. :-\

In preparation for moving tomorrow, there has been lots of packing and cleaning. I’m ready for the move to be over with and get settled down already. Tomorrow should be interesting… work + loan stuff (I’ll explain later) + moving + general work = busy adam.

Ok, so I guess my roommate’s people aren’t so bad… I was just offered a burger. Food heals all wounds. ;-)

…and We Move On

April 24th, 2003Friends / NewsComments?

This moving to an apartment off-campus stuff is interesting. Lots of places to call and get stuff hooked up. So far I’ve got the important stuff - phone and cable internet covered. Tomorrow I’m going to do the electric and utilities since I couldn’t do them over the phone. It’s really not that big a deal but it’s kind of stressful since I’ve never done it before.

And let me just say that cable is ridiculously expensive. I’m glad we’re going to be splitting the cost three ways. We’re going to experiment and see if we can live with just the internet and no cable tv (gasp). It was so much nicer when the college provided everything!

Also there’s packing for moving and graduation weekend and work… it just feels like a lot. My solution? Ignore it all and go hang out at Courtney’s for a pizza+Friends+Totoro funado. That’ll make me unstressed, right? It probably doesn’t help that I haven’t been running or lifting much lately because of stupid cold weather and weird fitness center hours. I’ll be glad once the move and graduation are done with and things can settle down.

Congrats to everybody who is finished with classes and exams. Sure feels good, doesn’t it? Yeah I’ve been enjoying that since December. Not to brag, of course.

Shoplifters of the World

Thanks to Courtney and Lynley, I’ve gotten into The Smiths. They’re a great 80s band fronted by Morrissey. Great sound, great songs. Who else has a song that says Shoplifters of the world, unite and take over? Nobody, that’s who.

One Week

April 21st, 2003Mac / News2 Comments

It’s one week until we move to better and more spacious living quarters. I am so ready! Good bye Parkwoods, hello three-bedroom apartment!

Not much else to report on. I want to order my PowerBook soon. In fact, I wish I already had it. Anybody got a wish-granting machine? ::sigh:: I thought not. :-)

Site Bug

April 20th, 2003Site7 Comments

I just found a bug in my site design. Ugh. See how on shorter pages like visual the middle column doesn’t go all the way to the bottom? Yeah, that’s a bug. If anybody has suggestions on how to fix that, I’d be most appreciative.

Best Friday

April 20th, 2003Friends / Geeking Out / Mac / Shopping / TravelComments?

Friday morning, I picked Courtney up at around 9 and we drove and drove and drove until we reached DC. Our first stop was IKEA. It was our first IKEA experience and we were both pretty much floored. That place is amazing. The entire gigantic second floor is a showroom and it took us close to two hours to make it through the whole thing and pick out what we wanted. After doing so much shopping, we were pretty famished. Thankfully, IKEA anticipates the hunger that comes from seeing so much cool stuff, and provides a restaurant right in the store.

Once we were done with our tasty meals, we headed down to the first-floor marketplace and loaded up the cart (which, btw, was like the ones in Ireland where all four wheels swivel… they’re hard to drive until you get the hang of it). I got a desk, speaker stands, a wire mesh trashcan, a cool lamp, and a towel. Courtney wanted to get a sweet overhead light fixture, but they were sold out. Oh well, I guess we’ll have to go back (yeah, big disappointment there ;-).

Being right next to Potomac Mills, we had to go do some more shopping. So we went to Old Navy, Music 4 Less, and Gap. I got some nice shirts at Old Navy and Gap, and since Music 4 Less was having a going out of business sale, I was able to pick up Sasha’s Airdrawndagger which I had been wanting for a while, as well as The Right Amount by Bon Voyage. I also got an Underworld single. Yay shopping!

Then it was on to Clarendon, for the now-traditional meal at Big Bowl and visit to the Apple store. Big Bowl was delicious as always, and the Apple store had something new this time! Oh yes, the 17" PowerBook was finally available to be played with. After hearing so much about that baby, it was awesome to finally touch one. My decision to purchase one has now been solidified. Completely. There’s really no other laptop like it.

Once we were done drooling in the Apple store, we browsed through Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel. Both had some pretty cool stuff, of course.

As Courtney said, it was the best Good Friday ever.

And Also

April 16th, 2003Friends / Travel1 Comment

I’m mad excited about plans for Friday. I don’t have work, so Courtney and I are going to DC. IKEA, Apple, and other great shopping places, here we come!

The original plan included a trip to FredVegas to visit Abbey, but unfortunately, that has fallen through. Sadness. :-(

It’s still going to be an awesome day though. Can’t wait!
